Carrick to make 1 big change vs Everton as £66.3m Man Utd star returns
Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick could make one big change to the starting line-up for the upcoming Premier League game against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The Red Devils saw their fourth-match league winning streak end after a 1-1 draw against West Ham United at the London Stadium. Benjamin Sesko scored a dramatic 96th-minute winner.
Despite this, United stay fourth in the standings ahead of Chelsea, and the onus will be on returning to winning ways when they meet the Toffees on the road on the 23rd of February.
The Red Devils are winless in their last two meetings, including a surprise loss at Old Trafford this term. Idrissa Gueye was sent off after just 15 minutes, but the Toffees still came on top.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s 29th-minute strike was sufficient to secure a win for David Moyes’ side.
United will be keen to make amends with a victory later this month. Ahead of the encounter, Carrick could make a solitary change to the starting XI from the 1-1 stalemate over the Hammers.
The 44-year-old has generally preferred to name an unchanged line-up, barring injuries. He has stuck with the same XI for the past three matches, but it could be time for a solitary change.
United lacked the cutting edge in the final third by starting with a false number nine once more. Matheus Cunha was picked to lead the line against the Hammers and barely made an impact.
Still, we fancy the Brazilian to keep his place in the starting line-up, and it could be Amad Diallo making way. The Ivorian was poor at West Ham and failed to deliver a single cross into the box.
United ultimately scored from a fine cross by Bryan Mbeumo from the right flank instead. In our view, Mbeumo could start on the right wing versus Everton with Cunha on the opposite end.
Bruno Fernandes will obviously start in his customary number 10 position. It seems the perfect time to unleash Sesko as the striker on the back of two goals in his last three substitute appearances.
The £66.3 million signing scored from an acute angle against the Hammers with a superb finesse shot, and he deserves to get the nod as the number nine instead of a makeshift solution.
Carrick has not made any changes to the XI recently, but it could finally be time to make a switch.
