45-year-old Tottenham manager target will only join if he is given the permanent job

0 12

New details have emerged over whether Robbie Keane will consider filling the vacant managerial position at Tottenham Hotspur – and it leaves the club with a big decision to make.

Tottenham Hotspur are currently without a manager for the second time in eight months, after Thomas Frank was sacked due to his team’s struggles.

The good news is that Spurs have time to find a replacement ahead of their next fixture, which is not for another 10 days.

However, Tottenham want a new manager appointed by Monday, which means a lot of attention must be given to the club’s manager search in order to achieve this objective.

Robbie Keane will only become Tottenham manager on one condition

Robbie Keane is one of the bosses rumoured to be on his old team’s radar, but the ex-Spurs striker has refused to speculate on whether he would return to North London.

Despite this, The Telegraph have revealed that Keane is thought to be interested in becoming the new Tottenham manager and his name has been discussed by the club.

Nevertheless, this is only on the condition that the Irishman is given the role on a permanent basis, rather than as an interim. He has no interest in joining for a few months just to keep the seat warm for a summer hire.

Spurs might be forced to consider the temporary appointment of John Heitinga if Keane does not change his mind. However, insiders claim the Tottenham hierarchy would prefer to bring in an external candidate if possible.

Keane would be a risky appointment for Spurs

Dubbed as ‘Tottenham’s Carrick candidate’, Keane could actually be who Spurs need to rise back up the Premier League table.

On the other hand, the 45-year-old has no experience managing a big club and could end up in a similar situation to Thomas Frank, whose limitations were clear for all to see.

Ultimately, it seems unlikely that Tottenham would be willing to hire Keane on a permanent basis. Therefore, it will not be surprising if he remains in charge of the Hungarian champions for the rest of the season.
