Why NFL Writer Named Stefon Diggs As Potential Patriots’ Top Trade Piece
The New England Patriots are entering a crucial offseason, and there’s a chance that one of the standout players from this past season’s roster could be on the move.
In a recent article, Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine highlighted a few players he believes could be potential trade assets for the Patriots this offseason, with wide receiver Stefon Diggs making the list.
“The goal of adding an older receiver like Stefon Diggs is to stabilize the receiving room,” Ballentine wrote on Wednesday. “He certainly did that, posting 1,013 receiving yards on 102 targets. Now, it’s worth considering trades that would clear $18.5 million in cap space and create opportunities for younger receivers on the roster.”
Diggs had an impressive season in New England, playing a crucial role in helping Drake Maye become one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. However, with Diggs turning 33 in the middle of next season, there’s a possibility that the Patriots might consider parting ways with him soon.
The 32-year-old wide receiver is set to carry a $26.5 million cap hit in 2026. However, if New England decides to trade Diggs, it would only assume an eight-million dead cap hit in a pre-June 1 trade.
The Patriots have a significant decision to make regarding Diggs this offseason, and there’s a chance he won’t be in New England next season.
