After Casemiro decision: £80m Man United star now 'likely' to extend Old Trafford stay

0 1

Manchester United have reportedly made an important contract decision ahead of next summer.

Casemiro has confirmed that he will leave United when his contract expires at the end of June.

Harry Maguire is another United star who is free to walk out of Old Trafford after the conclusion of this campaign.

According to the Daily Mail, Maguire is increasingly likely to sign a new contract at United.

He is currently earning a salary of £180,000 a week.

The hope between the two parties is that both sides can reach an agreement over his new salary and contract length.

UCL qualification may have the final say

Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven are other centre-back options available to the Red Devils.

If United were still playing in a back-three system, it would have been a no-brainer to extend Maguire’s contract.

However, the Red Devils have now switched to a traditional back four system.

Maguire will turn 33 next month and will be entering the twilight of his career.

If the Red Devils secure Champions League football, they will face a heavier schedule next season, making a top-quality group of five defenders crucial.

United could offer Maguire a new deal at reduced wages, considering he may need more careful management to stay fit.

The Red Devils are expected to spend heavily to revamp their midfield next summer.

Signing an experienced defender to replace Maguire could prove to be a very expensive move.

It would make sense to keep the £80 million signing for another campaign, not only for his experience on the pitch but also for his leadership in the dressing room.
