No way back: Man United poised to rule out Old Trafford return of 10-goal star
Manchester United have made a big decision on one of their biggest stars in recent years.
According to The Sun, Man United are still planning for the future without Marcus Rashford in mind.
The report further revealed that United had no intention of recalling Rashford during the winter transfer window.
When Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim as head coach, there were suggestions in some quarters that he could bring the forgotten star back to Old Trafford.
Carrick played with Rashford under Louis van Gaal before acting as a first-team coach and then caretaker manager.
The 28-year-old is contractually one of the highest earners at the club, with his current deal running until 2028.
INEOS have taken several cost-cutting measures over the last two seasons, including downsizing staff at the club.
We believe that having Rashford back at Old Trafford would be an unwise decision from the financial perspective.
Having risen through the ranks of the academy, he made his senior debut in 2016 under van Gaal.
He quickly rose to prominence and was bestowed with the legendary number 10 jersey after the departure of Wayne Rooney.
Rashford has played over 400 times for the Red Devils and often found his way into the headlines for both good and bad reasons.
His fallout with former manager Ruben Amorim led to his temporary departure to Aston Villa in January 2025.
He is now on loan at Barcelona with the La Liga giants having an option to sign him for £26 million.
He has netted 10 goals and recorded 13 assists in 34 games this season.
All parties could benefit if Barcelona sign Rashford permanently next summer.
