Paul Merson predicts entertaining game between ‘desperate’ Tottenham and Newcastle

0 3

Paul Merson has predicted the result of Tottenham Hotspur’s big Premier League clash at home against Newcastle United this evening.

A recurring trend for Tottenham Hotspur this season has been that just as some players return to action, others have succumbed to an injury.

That is once again the case ahead of this evening’s clash, with Djed Spence back against Newcastle but Destiny Udogie now sidelined for the next several weeks.

Tottenham will also go into the game without their captain, with Cristian Romero now suspended for four matches after his sending off at Old Trafford.

Paul Merson admits Tottenham v Newcastle is a ‘pundit’s nightmare’

Merson confessed that the upcoming clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is very difficult to predict, given the poor form both sides come into the game with.

The former Arsenal midfielder stated that he expects an entertaining affair in North London, predicting a high-scoring draw.

Merson told Sportskeeda: “Both Tottenham and Newcastle desperately need a response, don’t they? They’re not bad teams. But I feel they’ve both been let down at times by their best players!

“There is no justification for what Cristian Romero did against Manchester United on Saturday. It was ridiculous from him to get sent off. This isn’t the first time Romero has let Spurs down and as long as he keeps playing, it won’t be the last either.

“If the uncertainty around Sandro Tonali’s future was a concern for Newcastle, now they also have to deal with his poor run of form. I also don’t understand why his agent had to come out and talk publicly about his client’s future in the midst of all this. It just adds more pressure on Tonali.

“This game is a football pundit’s nightmare. You can predict one thing and the result could really embarrass you in the end! I can definitely see goals here, but I’m going for a draw.”

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-2 Newcastle United.

Thomas Frank admits Spurs are ‘desperate’ for points

The North Londoners go into this evening’s clash just five points clear of the relegation zone.

In fact, many Tottenham fans are genuinely concerned about the prospect of being dragged into a relegation scrap as the Lilywhites continue to struggle to get wins on the board.

Speaking on Monday, Frank himself acknowledged his side is desperate to get a win on the board after going seven league games without a victory.
