Cam Newton Makes Stance On Drake Maye Clear After Super Bowl Disappointment

Following Drake Maye’s disappointing outcome in Super Bowl LX for the New England Patriots, former New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton shared his honest thoughts on the ordeal.

Newton, who was a player Maye looked up to as a youth, found himself at odds with Maye this past NFL season after making not always supportive or positive comments about Drake.

However, on First Take on Monday, Newton had nothing but good things to say about his fellow quarterback.

Newton said that he was “extremely proud” of Maye all season long. “This season wasn’t a failure,” Cam said. “You made leaps, strides, and bounds to becoming an MVP candidate … It’s only the beginning, not the end.”

Newton’s comments here were poignant. Maye, after all, is only 23 years old, and he ostensibly has his entire career ahead of him.

What’s more, the Patriots are loaded with a ton of young talent around Maye on both sides of the football, and they should be set up to compete for titles in the years to come.

Yes, Super Bowl appearances are never guaranteed and shouldn’t be taken for granted, but it’s not outlandish to assume that Maye will get another crack at a championship before his career is all said and done.

When that time comes, he will surely use Sunday night’s disappointment as fuel.
