Patriots’ Oldest Player Sends Will Campbell Message After Rough Game
The New England Patriots lost the Super Bowl 29-13 to the Seattle Seahawks, and Will Campbell had a rough game.
Campbell was the fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft and started all 13 games he played in last season. He was a solid player, but was inconsistent at times. He is only 22 years old and has plenty of room to improve.
The Seahawks sacked Drake Maye six times and had 11 quarterback hits. The Patriots’ offensive line did not hold up well, and Campbell was struggling all game. However, veteran right tackle Morgan Moses revealed what he said to Campbell after the game.
“I told him I’ve never seen a rookie come in and play the way he played at left tackle,” Moses said after the game, per The Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed. “The sky’s the limit for him, man. He has the opportunity to look back and rest a little bit and get himself back working out. For a rookie to go out there and play left tackle all the way to the Super Bowl and do an amazing job and still have room to grow, he’s the guy.”
Moses is 34 years old and has played in 183 NFL games. He has seen plenty and believes Campbell is the Patriots’ future at left tackle. Despite playing for 12 seasons, Moses has only made the playoffs five times.
He is the Patriots’ oldest player, and as he nears the end of his career, this may have been his best chance to get a ring. However, he does not want Campbell feeling sorry for him.
“I said, ‘Don’t feel sorry for me.’ It’s an unbelievable journey for me, not only for me but my kids,” Moses said, per Kyed. “They got to gain an uncle in Will. They got to gain friends in the locker room. I think that’s the beauty of it all. You don’t know what you’re walking into in a new locker room, but it turns out to be the best thing you’ve ever had. I told the guys to cherish these moments, because these are moments that you’ll never forget.”
