Arsenal and Tottenham both named as possible destinations for 6x Bundesliga champ

0 1

Leon Goretzka’s situation is once again gathering attention heading towards the summer window, with both Tottenham and Arsenal linked.

Tottenham Hotspur were keen on landing Leon Goretzka in the winter transfer window on deadline day as they sought midfield reinforcement.

However, no deal came to fruition, with the German instead opting to remain in Munich with the German champions.

Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, also came out to pour cold water on reports linking Goretzka with a move away from Germany in the winter, stating that the midfielder will see out the remainder of the season.

Arsenal join Tottenham in race for Leon Goretzka transfer

Goretzka, however, has less than six months left on his contract and is expected to become a free agent in the summer, with no plans of renewing his contract at Bayern beyond this summer.

That means Spurs could land the midfielder on a free transfer should they move to sign him in the next couple of months.

Fresh reports now state that Arsenal are also in the race for the Bayern midfielder. It is claimed that the Gunners are ready to fight Tottenham for the signature of Goretzka in the summer.

Addressing interest in the midfielder and the clubs in the frame, journalist Heiko Niedderer outlined the situation and named Spurs among the possible destinations.

He said, speaking to Bild: “We know about the negotiations with Atlético Madrid, which were quite advanced.

“Arsenal also jumped in and made an offer. But Goretzka had already decided to make a clean break and look for something new in the summer.

“In this case, it worked out well; it sounds like a clean break. Arsenal could be another exciting option in the summer, though. England in general is his preferred destination.

“And I think that is where he belongs with his style of play. Tottenham is also a possibility; I would be happy with that as well.”

Spurs face stiff competition for Goretzka

As the journalist stated, Spurs and Arsenal are not the only ones keen on securing the signature of the Bayern Munich man.

Atletico Madrid were also in the race for the 31-year-old during the winter window but could not get a deal over the line.

Spurs do not just have Arsenal and Atleti to contend with for the signature of Goretzka, with Barcelona and AC Milan also keen on the midfielder.
