Ex-Patriots QB Defends Tom Brady’s Choice Not To Back New England In Super Bowl LX
The Patriots are gearing up for their first Super Bowl without Tom Brady as quarterback since 1997. Interestingly, even though he’s no longer with New England, the seven-time Super Bowl champion is still making headlines this week.
Brady appeared on Sirius XM’s “Let’s Go!” podcast with Jim Gray on Tuesday and mentioned that he doesn’t “have a dog in the fight” when it comes to choosing between the Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.
It was a bit shocking to hear Brady say he wasn’t rooting for the Patriots, the team he played for 20 seasons and won six Super Bowls with. However, one of his former teammates, quarterback Brian Hoyer, didn’t have a problem with it.
“I couldn’t care less,” Hoyer said Thursday on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show”. “Think about it this way, he’s a part-owner of a different franchise (Las Vegas Raiders). They’re hiring at least Klint Kubiak, should he root against his future head coach. I don’t think it’s a big deal.”
Hoyer spent eight seasons with the Patriots over three different stints, teaming up with Brady for five of those years. He raised an interesting point: with Brady now part-owner of the Raiders, it’s expected they will bring in Seattle’s offensive coordinator, Kubiak, as their next head coach.
Brady probably doesn’t want to go against the coach he is supposed to hire to lead the Raiders.
Although Brady hasn’t openly declared that he’s rooting for New England, it’s likely that deep down he will be supporting the Patriots on Sunday. After spending 20 seasons with New England, it’s hard to put that behind him completely.
