Man United’s £25.2m signing joins Chelsea and Liverpool stars on January Premier League Player of the Month shortlist

0 3

Manchester United star Patrick Dorgu has been nominated for January’s Premier League Player of the Month following a brilliant run of from.

Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz, Brighton’s Yasin Ayari, Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi are also on the shortlist.

West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville, Brentford’s Igor Thiago and Fulham’s Harry Wilson are the other nominees.

Dorgu enjoyed an outstanding January in Man United’s shirt, scoring two goals and providing one assist in four league games.

Deployed as a left-winger under interim manager Michael Carrick, he was brilliant in the 2-0 victory over Manchester City, sealing the victory with a fine strike.

He then played a massive role as United claimed a 3-2 victory at Arsenal, scoring a magnificent goal from outside the area after combining with captain Bruno Fernandes.

His only assist came in the 2-2 draw with Burnley — delivering a precise cross into the box for Benjamin Sesko to score United’s second.

The £25.2 million signing is the third United player to be nominated for the award this season. Bryan Mbeumo won it in October, while Fernandes lost to Thiago in November.

A hamstring injury he picked up against Arsenal has halted his momentum, and he is expected to spend 10 weeks on the sidelines.

Matheus Cunha replaced him in the starting XI against Fulham, and the Brazilian is expected to keep his place for Tottenham Hotspur’s visit on Saturday.

United are aiming for a fourth consecutive victory under Carrick and to maintain their grip on fourth place.
