Liverpool weigh up Andy Robertson decision that could ruin Tottenham’s plans

0 1

Andy Robertson’s future has taken another twist, with fresh developments emerging after Tottenham Hotspur failed to sign the Liverpool full-back during the winter window.

Tottenham Hotspur could well have managed more than two signings in the winter transfer window had they secured the signature of Andy Robertson.

Spurs were in the race and were willing to pay a modest fee to bring Robertson to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Liverpool full-back was also keen on a move to north London; however, the deal ultimately broke down, and he remained at Anfield.

Joe Gomez’s injury and the Reds’ inability to recall Kostas Tsimikas meant they were short of options out wide, and as such, the Robertson move was halted.

Tottenham linked as Liverpool consider Andy Robertson contract

According to TeamTalk, it is now understood that Liverpool is considering handing Andy Robertson a new contract to keep him at Anfield beyond the end of the season.

The full-back, 31, runs the risk of becoming a free agent in the summer, but it is now explained that the Reds are weighing up a short-term extension.

It is claimed that a one or two-year deal to keep Robertson at Anfield could be on offer, as Arne Slot’s men value his leadership and experience during what is a transitional period for the Merseyside club.

Transfer factors that could still impact Spurs hopes of signing Robertson

TeamTalk also revealed that three factors could play a role in Robertson’s decision moving forward.

The outlet reports that Robertson’s decision about his future will hinge on playing time, family considerations, and the allure of new challenges.

Spurs remain keen and value his experience, but Premier League sides Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also said to be interested, drawn to Robertson’s proven pedigree and ability to deliver pinpoint crosses.

Celtic are also in the mix and could offer Robertson strong wages while allowing the full-back to end his career where it began, as he is a boyhood fan of the Glasgow giants and started his senior career at Queen’s Park following a brief stint in Celtic’s youth setup.
