Thomas Frank sends Football Manager warning to Tottenham fans, but promises ‘a big summer’
Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank has addressed growing questions about Spurs’ transfer business and whether his squad has been weakened amid an injury crisis.
Thomas Frank’s side has become significantly weaker in January, given the number of injuries he has had to contend with across multiple positions.
At the moment, Spurs head into their weekend clash against Manchester City with a severely depleted squad, with eight first-team players ruled out because of injury.
With the transfer window now open, the expectation has been that Spurs will look to strengthen before it slams shut in a few days, but since the signings of Souza and Gallagher, there have been no further additions.
The forward line remains an area of concern, one that Frank has admitted Spurs were looking to strengthen, yet no one has come through the door.
Tottenham transfer stance explained by Thomas Frank
Speaking to football.london, the Spurs head coach addressed supporters’ expectations and the realities of doing business in the January transfer window, stressing that patience is required despite understandable frustration.
Introducing his comments on fan pressure and the complexity of recruitment, Frank said: “The fans just want the best for the club like I do, the owners and everyone in the club.
“It is fair to say though that the transfer window is not like Football Manager. Maybe it would be more boring if it was with less to talk about.”
He added (Tottenham): “I’m sure if we’re not for whatever reason able to get another player in this window, it’s a big summer ahead and I’m not in any doubt that we will see a big improvement.”
Frank admits Spurs have got weaker in January
Also speaking to football.london, Thomas Frank reflected on how injuries have impacted the squad since the turn of the year. He outlined the scale of the losses and acknowledged how unfortunate some of those setbacks have been.
He said, “I think that’s fair. We lost six or seven players. That’s crazy and some of them extremely unlucky like Lucas and Ben. Of course, it’s weaker than when we started the 1st of January.”
The winter window slams shut on February 2, leaving Tottenham with little time to address their squad issues and bolster their depth.
