Patriots Rival Predicted To Lose Key Player To Seahawks In Free Agency
The New England Patriots and New York Jets are in two very different spots as organizations right now.
A year ago, the Jets and Patriots were both watching the playoffs from the couch. Now, the Patriots are in the Super Bowl, and the Jets are still searching for answers. More change is expected for the Jets this offseason, with Breece Hall’s future in the spotlight.
The Jets’ lack of consistent quarterback play has perhaps hurt Hall’s overall numbers. He has over 1,300 scrimmage yards in each of the last three seasons. He had 1,000 rushing yards last season despite teams knowing that he was the Jets’ only real threat to move the ball on offense.
He is a free agent this offseason, and CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles predicted the Jets would lose him to the Seattle Seahawks in free agency. Pereles also predicted the Jets would sign Kenneth Walker III to replace Hall.
“Zach Charbonnet tore his ACL in the playoffs, and Kenneth Walker III is set to be a free agent,” wrote Pereles on Wednesday. “Hall isn’t as elusive as Walker, but he is a smooth operator with some impressive explosiveness, and he’s a better pass catcher.”
Hall was the best part of the Jets’ offense last season. Garrett Wilson is a superstar at wide receiver, but the Jets have failed to get him a consistent quarterback. Hall has 22 total touchdowns in the last three years.
The Jets would need to pivot with Hall gone, and Walker could be a great fit. Essentially, swapping running backs with the Seahawks could work out well for the Jets. Walker is great after contact and could thrive on the Jets.
Walker and Charbotnet split carries in Seattle, but he would be the clear-cut lead back on the Jets. This postseason, Walker has four rushing touchdowns. The Patriots will see him on Feb. 8, and they could potentially see him twice a year if he joins the Jets.
The Jets have a lot of work to do to catch up to the Patriots. That work will start in free agency.
