Girls Academy Hit Another Five To Keep Impressive Winning Streak Going

0 1

Another long away trip for the girls’ academy resulted in another five goals scored and three points earned.

Darts Girls travelled to Cambridge Utd with the aim to be more clinical against their opposition after a host of chances went begging in the match-up earlier in the season.

The team started off on the front foot, with the front three causing the Cambridge defence all sorts of problems.

The first goal was from Hannah McLaughin, who ran through the defence and put the ball in the back of the net. Two minutes later, Olivia Ajose pressed the keeper, forced the mistake and was left with a tap-in.

Isabella Taffs made it 3-0, after running at the full back and slotting the ball in.

It was 3-0 at half-time and the message was to play the same way and control the game.

The team created plenty of chances in the second half, with goals from Isabella Taffs and Izzy Edgar, who slotted it into the bottom corner, ensuring the win and displaying the team’s dominance.

Cambridge scored a late consolation, after a lapse of concentration in defence, but the team made it a great 5-1 win at the final whistle.

Manager George Kingdon said: “The girls have a sense of confidence and arrogance now, which is healthy. They realise they are a good collective. They are a bunch of 16-and 17-year-olds competing in an U21 league. They are doing so well.

“I was really pleased. We are playing well throughout. The defence, midfield and attack are all doing their jobs and we are creating lots of chances.

“We’ve also only conceded six goals all season. They are a credit to themselves and we are now another game closer to winning this league.”
