Gary Neville makes Premier League prediction for Man Utd vs Fulham

0 20

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has made his prediction for Sunday’s Premier League clash between the Red Devils and Fulham at Old Trafford.

United have been brilliant under interim head coach Michael Carrick. They have secured statement wins over Manchester City and Arsenal over the last two weeks.

The victory over the Gunners was indeed special, given it was their first league win against the north London side at the Emirates Stadium since December 2017.

United are currently fourth in the table with a slender one-point lead over fifth-placed Chelsea, and the onus is on continuing the winning streak against the Cottagers.

Ahead of Sunday’s game at Old Trafford, Neville has backed the Red Devils to pick a 3-1 victory. He believes United will come on top despite a different challenge.

He said on the ‘Stick to Football‘ podcast: “3-1. It’s like a different draw, a different type of test on Sunday, which is interesting, but I think they will come on top.”

United had a phenomenal record against the Cottagers between 2010 and 2023, with no defeats in any competitions. They picked up 15 wins with just three draws.

However, things have evened out over the past couple of years. In the last five meetings, both teams have won two games each, with a solitary draw that happened this term.

The Red Devils shared the spoils with a 1-1 scoreline in the reverse fixture, but it should have been a routine victory. Bruno Fernandes failed to convert an early penalty.

Fernandes will be determined to put things right this time around. He has a good record against the west London outfit with six goal contributions from 11 previous meetings.

As Neville said, it will be a different kind of test for the club. United capitalised on counter-attacks to beat Man City and Arsenal, but they could face a low-block themselves on Sunday.

Marco Silva’s side likewise enjoy scoring from quick counters. The Red Devils must be defensively solid, as the likes of Harry Wilson and Samuel Chukwueze have been in fine scoring form.

United have the opportunity to pick up three straight wins for the first time since October. A victory over the Cottagers would further boost Carrick’s prospects of securing the permanent job.
