Goalkeeping Department Expansion
We’re pleased to confirm development’s within the club’s Goalkeeping department with current first-team goalkeeper coach Robbie Rimmington moving into Head of Goalkeeping and first-team keeper Rhys Williams set to take on a dual-role as a player-coach for the remainder of the season.
Speaking about the changes, Colwyn Bay manager Mike Wilde said: “I’m delighted to see our Goalkeeping department evolve alongside every other area of the club.
“It was a natural progression for Robbie to move into a role which shall now oversee all goalkeeping activity at the club, which in turn provided us with an opportunity to offer Rhys, who’s a highly rated coach also working with Stockport County, that next step in his career with the football club by moving into a player-coach role within our first-team setup.”
Speaking on his new role, Rhys added: “I currently am a goalkeeper coach within academy football, and to be able to experience coaching in men’s football is a great addition to my skill set.
“I think that my playing experience and being able to continue training will compliment the way I coach, whilst also being ready to play if needed.
“It’s an exciting time at the club with lots of changes and developments which has brought an opportunity to evolve and expand my role within it.
“Being a coach is something I enjoy doing and is something I want to progress with, this new role adds valuable coaching experience to what I already have, and hopefully it adds a lot of value to the current coaching department.”
New Head of Goalkeeping Robbie Rimmington commented: “Im excited to increase the range of my responsibility across the club, focusing on the bigger picture and getting younger goalkeepers into the first-team.
“The club is such a positive place at the moment, and its a pleasure to play a big role in building the future of the club.
“Working with other coaches within the club will also provide me with a better oversight on the progression of all goalkeepers with the ultimate aim of creating a player pathway into our first-team.”
