Jets Add Another Substantial Name To List Of Assistant Coach Firings
The New York Jets have fired eight assistant coaches in the last five days…
New York head coach Aaron Glenn continued to overhaul his coaching staff by parting ways with offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
Engstrand, 43, did not have any experience as an offensive play-caller before being hired last offseason away from the Detroit Lions. The Jets finished near the bottom of the league in scoring (29th) and in total yards (29th), all while cycling through three quarterbacks: Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor and undrafted rookie Brady Cook.
New York’s next play-caller will be its 12th in the last 16 seasons, with the last one to last more than two years being current Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer (2006-11).
Glenn previously fired passing game coordinator Scott Turner, quarterbacks coach Charles London, defensive line coach Eric Washington, linebackers coach Aaron Curry, nickels coach Alonso Escalante and assistant defensive backs coach Dre Bly, among others, earlier this week.
No, seriously.
It’s another disastrous start to the offseason for the J-E-T-S, who are looking for both an offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator — with head coach potentially being next if they don’t get these hirings right.
