Weekend preview: Home double - including critical Lydney clash
Both Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Men's and Women's First Team sides are in home action this weekend. And the first of those games is a critical Hellenic League Premier Division encounter against Lydney Town on Saturday (Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, 3pm kick off). Both teams are looking to extricate themselves from danger, with a draw offering no satisfaction. Saturday's clash is therefore set to be a tense, exciting one. It's the fourth meeting between the sides this season, with the three games played so far all producing plenty of goals. After a 3-3 FA Cup draw in Lydney, Bassett romped to a 3-0 victory in the replay. However a the Severnsiders exacted revenge by romping to a 3-0 triumph at home in the league. Bassett are unbeaten against Lydney in their last six home games - and will be seeking an important win to extend that run. Admission on Saturday is £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members. Then on Sunday Bassett host Devon-based Appledore in the South West Regional Women's Football League Divisional Cup second round (2pm kick off). The first ever game between the teams, Bassett will be looking to beat a side who find themselves towards the bottom of Division One South and book a quarter final spot. Admission on Sunday is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members. Meanwhile on Saturday the Development team face a derby trip to Shrivenham in the Wiltshire League Premier Division (2pm kick off). Bassett are looking to close the gap to their in form rivals. The teams played out a 1-1 draw in their first meeting in October. - Royal Wootton Bassett Town Men's and Women's First Team are proudly sponsored by Imagine Cruising.
