Tottenham offer £85m for Real Madrid midfielder who Liverpool also love, Spanish reports claim
Real Madrid have been left on alert after reports claim that Tottenham and Liverpool are interested in one of their key midfielders.
There is a clear need for more reinforcement in the Tottenham Hotspur squad as Thomas Frank’s side continue to struggle despite signing Conor Gallagher earlier this month.
Not only have results been inconsistent, but Spurs have also had to deal with an injury crisis that has hit every area of the pitch, leaving Frank’s side stretched.
The midfield has been just as affected, with Rodrigo Bentancur, Joao Palhinha, Lucas Bergvall and James Maddison all sidelined through injury.
Spurs no doubt need cover in the middle of the park, and reports now claim that they have made a huge offer for a midfielder.
Tottenham make Aurelien Tchouameni offer to Real Madrid
According to Fichajes, it is understood that Tottenham have offered £85 million (€100m) to Real Madrid for their midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from Madrid and is understood to be on the radar of two Premier League clubs, with Liverpool also keen.
The France international has featured 18 times for Real Madrid in La Liga and has the experience, physical traits and attributes required to succeed in the Premier League.
It remains to be seen whether Madrid will give the green light for a player of Tchouameni’s stature to leave in January.
Tchouameni links to Spurs should be taken with a pinch of salt
The 25-year-old midfielder would no doubt be a top addition to Spurs’ squad, as he represents a clear upgrade on the current options available.
However, a player of Tchouameni’s stature would be unlikely to join Spurs in their current slump, while reports of this so-called £85m have not yet been backed up by reliable UK journalists.
While injuries have left Spurs stretched in midfield, there is also the possibility of the Lilywhites losing further numbers in the middle of the park this summer.
Yves Bissouma has six months left on his current deal and could well depart, while Joao Palhinha is currently on loan and could return to Bayern Munich if Spurs do not take up their option to buy the 30-year-old.
