Gun attack at football match kills at least 11 in Mexico

Local media in Mexico reported that at least 11 people were killed and several others wounded in an armed attack during a football match.

The incident occurred on Sunday at a football stadium in the town of Loma de Flores in central Mexico, according to initial reports.

Witnesses said armed men arrived at the stadium in two vehicles and opened fire indiscriminately after getting out during the match.

At least 12 people were injured in the attack, some of them critically, local media reported citing emergency responders.

Local authorities confirmed the incident and said security forces were deployed to the scene as investigations began to identify those responsible.

In recent years, Mexico has seen a sharp rise in violent incidents, including shootings in public spaces such as bars, markets, and sporting venues.

Much of the violence has been linked to organized crime groups, whose activities continue to pose major security challenges across several regions.

Officials said efforts are under way to strengthen security at public events, as concerns grow over safety at large gatherings and sporting competitions.
