Key Tottenham star could miss the North London derby if he’s not careful
Thomas Frank could be without one of his most important players for Tottenham’s North London derby next month.
Spurs have an extremely bloated injury list at the moment, which is something that Tottenham fans have become used to over the last couple of years.
The latest victim in Spurs’ injury curse is Lucas Bergvall, who could reportedly be out of action for two or three months after picking up an ankle injury against Borussia Dortmund.
Tottenham may also lose one of their star players for one of their big upcoming matches, potentially even the North London derby, if he is not careful.
Cristian Romero is ending close to another Tottenham suspension
Romero has already served two suspensions this season, once for accumulating five yellow cards and another for receiving a red card against Liverpool.
The Tottenham Hotspur star is now on eight yellow cards, which means he is coming dangerously close to another suspension.
Premier League’s rules state that players who accumulate double-digit bookings on or before the 32nd league fixture have to serve a two-match suspension.
That means that if Romero gets booked two more times within the next three Premier League matches, he will have to sit out the big clash against Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on February 22.
Romero is certain to miss a couple of big matches
Following their clash against Burnley, Tottenham face some huge games, with the Lilywhites playing Man City, Man United, Newcastle United and Arsenal back-to-back.
The possibility of Romero coming through that run of fixtures without picking two more bookings appears very slim.
Thankfully for Spurs, Kevin Danso has proved more than an able deputy whenever he has been called upon, and he will not be fazed by those opponents.
