High-profile star set for Old Trafford exit in summer after Man Utd make contract decision
Manchester United have officially confirmed that Casemiro will depart Old Trafford at the end of the season.
With his contract expiring in July, the club have opted against activating their option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.
Casemiro has now broken his silence following the announcement, striking a tone of gratitude while stressing that his United story is not finished just yet.
He said (via ManUtd.com): “I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life.
“From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.
“It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.”
The veteran midfielder arrived in Manchester from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 in a £60 million move that instantly raised expectations.
It was recently revealed that Casemiro has a little-known clause buried deep within his contract.
The 33-year-old had the power to trigger an extra year at United by making 35 starts this season.
In his debut campaign, Casemiro was transformative, driving United to their first trophy in six years with a Carabao Cup success and a third-place Premier League finish.
Subsequent seasons exposed a drop in intensity, yet the five-time Champions League winner responded with the mentality of an elite professional.
Over the past 18 months, he reinvented himself, producing a remarkable resurgence when many had written him off.
Once labelled fifth-choice under former manager Ruben Amorim, Casemiro forced his way back into contention through relentless training performances.
Today’s generation of football lacks this elite and fighting mentality.
Criticism of Casemiro’s weaker performances has been loud, while praise for his authoritative displays has been strangely muted.
Even in the recent Manchester Derby, he earned Man of the Match honours without registering a goal or an assist.
History will be kinder to him than the present narrative suggests.
