Thomas Frank delivers Tottenham injury update for Burnley, bad news for one star

0 9

Thomas Frank has offered an update on the fitness of his Tottenham Hotspur squad as attention turns back to the Premier League and a testing trip to Burnley.

Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund has given Thomas Frank a lifeline, allowing the Dane to live to fight another day following speculation that he was at risk of losing his job.

Spurs dug deep and showed some much-needed togetherness against Dortmund, which helped a severely depleted squad secure the victory.

Everyone was involved, including youngster Junai Byfield, whom Thomas Frank has been quick to praise after a calm performance.

Thomas Frank provides Tottenham injury update ahead of Burnley

Coming into the clash against Burnley, the Dane still has a few injuries to contend with, although availability is not limited to just 11 first-team players.

Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison remain sidelined, although the Swede is not too far from a return, while Mohammed Kudus and Rodrigo Bentancur are expected to return in March. Meanwhile, Richarlison is out for a few weeks following a hamstring problem.

Joao Palhinha, who has missed the last two outings, could return alongside Mathys Tel, Radu Dragusin, Conor Gallagher and Yves Bissouma, who were ineligible for the Champions League game but are back in contention for the league fixture.

Ben Davies is also sidelined following his painful leg injury against West Ham and is not an option for Thomas Frank.

Thomas Frank has now provided an injury update on his Tottenham squad ahead of the clash against relegation-threatened Burnley.

Explaining the current situation, he told Football London: “Unfortunately, Lucas [Bergvall] picked up an ankle injury. He keeps being very unlucky with injuries. It looks like a bigger one. He’s being assessed in the next couple of days, so we’ll know more about the timeframe.

“Palhinha is progressing, could be close for Burnley, but will be tight. Dom, Destiny and Xavi all came through well and have had a little extra recovery time. They should be available for Burnley.”

On whether this is the worst injury crisis he has seen, he added: “It must be close to my third year in the Premier League with Brentford, I also had a horrendous year which impacted massively the Premier League season unfortunately so this is definitely close.

“The Bergvall one, how unlucky is that? With contact injuries, there was Joao? Kudus? Some of them is like what is happening here, seems like we are cursed or something like that but injuries are a part of football. Next thing we can look at is how can we speed up the return to play.”
