Tottenham confirm second signing of January transfer window
Tottenham Hotspur have now gone on to bolster their depleted squad, completing their second piece of business in the winter transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur have endured a dismal first half of the 2025-26 season, finding themselves 14th in the table and eliminated from both domestic cup competitions.
Thomas Frank has come under severe pressure from supporters as a result, with fans demanding far better performances from the team on the pitch.
Spurs must now turn their fortunes around in the second half of the campaign as they look to build on their Europa League triumph from last season and stay within touching distance of some of the strongest sides in England.
Tottenham confirm Souza as second winter signing
Tottenham have now moved to strengthen their squad ahead of the final five months of the season.
The north London club have confirmed that 19-year-old Santos full-back Souza has joined from the Brazilian league during the winter window.
It is a permanent deal, with Spurs agreeing a £15 million transfer fee to secure the services of the young defender, fending off interest from London rivals Chelsea.
Souza has signed a long-term contract, making him one of seven Brazilians to have signed for the Lilywhites in recent years.
What Souza adds to Thomas Frank’s squad
The 19-year-old now gives Thomas Frank another option at full-back, arriving as a natural left-footed presence on that flank, unlike Djed Spence, who has often been asked to fill in there.
Spence is naturally a right-back and, with the addition of the former Santos player, the England international can now serve as an alternative option for Pedro Porro, who has played every minute in the Premier League.
Tottenham are understood to still be looking to strengthen their squad during the winter window, with supporters hoping Souza is not the final piece of business.
Earlier this month, Tottenham signed Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid in a deal £35m.
