Kane favours history book entries that cannot be erased
Harry Kane’s sense of relief when lifting his fabled trophy curse in 2025 was palpable to millions around the world.
Despite boasting a roll of honour that includes multiple Golden Boots and several prestigious individual prizes, collective success had proved elusive until the Bundesliga title was captured with Bayern Munich.
An emotional farewell to Tottenham had been bade in 2023 with the intention of breaking a notable duck in Germany.
As soon as said silverware was hoisted above his head, inevitable speculation was sparked regarding what would happen next.
History
Kane plundered 213 goals in England’s top-flight during his time with Spurs, becoming their all-time leading marksman and regularly earning favour with those scouring bet on football online markets for reliable first scorer picks.
He moved to within 47 efforts of Alan Shearer’s historic mark in the toughest of divisions, with many hoping to see him grace an English Premier League bet slip again – potentially turning Tottenham from 80/1 top-four outsiders into realistic title contenders in the process.
Unfortunately for those on the Lilywhite half of north London, the transfer gossip that continues to rage lacks any real substance.
Kane is happy and settled in Bavaria, with there being no need for him to consider a change of scenery – even if those surroundings are particularly familiar to him and still feel like home.
Remarkable standards have been maintained with Bayern, as the history books continue to be rewritten in continental Europe.
Kane could break more records if returning to his roots, but would he be sacrificing shots at the grandest of prizes when heading down that path? The general consensus is that he would.
There is plenty to be said for chasing down Newcastle legend Shearer and becoming the greatest goalscorer that the Premier League has ever seen. There are, however, no guarantees that such a standing would stand the test of time.
Few could have predicted that anyone would get close to Shearer, so why would Kane suddenly be out of reach?
If someone – potentially an Erling Haaland or somebody of that ilk – were to go beyond Kane, then his efforts would ultimately have been in vain. He will not be forgotten, certainly at Spurs, but taller tales would be told of even more fearsome No.9s.
That is a future poser not lost on England’s current captain.
For him, tangible success will forever mean more than personal accolades. He is, and always has been, the ultimate team player.
Former Bayern midfielder Dietmar Hamann has said of the speculation regarding Kane’s future at the Allianz Arena: “For me, a trophy would always be a lot more important than individual honours.”
Worthwhile
Kane forms part of a Bayern team that will be perennial challengers for Bundesliga titles and Champions League crowns.
He has the opportunity to finish his career with multiple major honours, giving him something to look back on in the years to come and make all of his hard work feel worthwhile. Why would he give that up?
It may be that a fresh start outside of Munich is sought at some stage, but given his standing in the global game, it is likely that he would head to another trophy-chasing superpower over any Premier League also-ran that offers him a shot at chasing down Shearer.
