MLB Analyst Predicts Red Sox’s Next Move After Ranger Suárez

MLB analyst Steve Phillips has an idea. Appearing on MLB Network on Thursday, the former New York Mets general manager brought up St. Louis Cardinals infielder Brendan Donovan as a target.
Donovan has been linked to the Red Sox repeatedly this offseason, and Boston has already made multiple deals with St. Louis’ president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom, who used to be the CBO for the Red Sox.
Donovan delivered the best performance of his career in the 2025 season for the Cardinals, despite being limited to 118 games due to injury. He batted .287 with 132 hits, 10 home runs, 50 RBIs, and 64 runs scored, posting a .775 OPS. He made his first All-Star team, and his defensive versatility across multiple positions, including second base and left field, remained a strength.
Over his four-year MLB career since debuting in 2022, Donovan holds a .282 lifetime average across 1,765 at-bats, with 40 home runs, 202 RBIs, and 241 runs scored. Early on, he captured a 2022 Gold Glove, showcasing his fielding prowess.
Drafted in the seventh round in 2018 from South Alabama, the Germany-born infielder has maintained solid plate discipline, with a career .772 OPS.
