Neville urges INEOS to appoint five-time UCL winner at Man United
Manchester United have already begun their hunt to recruit a world-class head coach next summer.
Club legend Gary Neville has now urged United to think big and go all-in for Carlo Ancelotti, a manager synonymous with calm authority and serial success.
Ancelotti is currently leading Brazil and will be fully focused on guiding the Selecao through the World Cup in July.
Neville said on The Overlap: “I have said Ancelotti because he is 66 years of age and he has probably got one more job left at club level.
“If there was one person who has got the patience, composure and experience of the Premier League [it’s him].”
Neville went on to outline the exact profile United should be targeting as they plot their rebuild.
He said: “Who can handle the media? Who can sort the dressing room out? Who can handle the owners? Who plays a style of football that fans will at least enjoy watching? Who has Champions League experience? Who has big?game experience?
From that demanding checklist, Neville identified three standout candidates who could realistically fit the bill.
“The three that stand out are Tuchel, Ancelotti and Pochettino. They could all be available after the World Cup. Eddie Howe – who has won a trophy, finished in the top four, and managed a big club in Newcastle – is another.”
Ancelotti has very solid Premier League credentials, having previously taken charge of both Chelsea and Everton.
He won two titles with Chelsea in his debut season, including the Premier League.
His side was defined by its attacking brilliance, scoring a record-breaking 103 league goals and redefining flair in English football.
At Everton, Ancelotti restored belief and credibility, guiding the club to a respectable 10th-place finish.
He also delivered one of the club’s most cherished moments in modern history, masterminding a first win at Anfield in 32 years.
The Italian tactician departed Merseyside in 2021 for Real Madrid, where his legacy only grew stronger.
The 66-year-old boasts one of the most decorated managerial careers the game has ever seen, lifting the UEFA Champions League (UCL) five times with AC Milan and Real Madrid.
Beyond England, he has also conquered domestic football in Germany with Bayern Munich and Spain with Real Madrid, underlining his adaptability across leagues and cultures.
There is little doubt that landing Ancelotti would represent a statement signing of the highest order.
With United still searching for stability and identity, a manager of Ancelotti’s calibre could be the figure capable of restoring belief and delivering sustained success at the top of the game.
