Chido Obi’s brace fires Man United back to top of Premier League 2 standings

Manchester United U21s registered a 4-1 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League 2 on Monday evening.

Wolves began on the front foot, forcing United goalkeeper Will Murdock into a crucial save in the 10th minute against Fletcher Holman.

James Scanlon then got a chance at the other end, but his attempt was easily dealt with by Alfie Brooks in the Wolves goal.

United seized control from Wolves and fashioned several opportunities, but they could not get the breakthrough before the break.

Just after the interval, recent first-team debutant Jack Fletcher delivered a free kick, which Brooks spilled into the path of Tyrell Malacia, who smashed the ball into the net.

Chido Obi doubled United’s advantage in the 67th minute, making a timely run into the area to put a rebound home after Scanlon’s low drive was deflected onto the crossbar.

Moments after his introduction, Gabriele Biancheri made it 3-0, cutting onto his left foot inside the box, before unleashing a strike which was deflected past Brooks’ reach.

Ethan Sutherland pulled one back for Wolves in the 83rd minute, powering a shot beyond Murdock offering some lifeline to the hosts.

However, any hope of staging a comeback was dashed when Biancheri ran into space to pick out the run of Obi, who lifted the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper.

The victory takes United back to the top of the Premier League 2. Travis Binnion’s side will have the chance to consolidate their position when they take on Fulham on Friday.
