Report: Celtics Among Three Eastern Conference Teams Interested In Big Man

The Boston Celtics have again been connected to Dallas Mavericks big man Daniel Gafford in NBA trade rumors.

As the Celtics continue to exceed expectations during the 2025-26 season, starting center Neemias Queta remains one of the biggest, pleasant surprises in the league.

Still, with the offseason departures of Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kornet, Boston’s frontcourt depth is lacking.

The Celtics were linked to Gafford in late December and again on Sunday, this time by NBA insider Marc Stein.

The longtime NBA correspondent wrote that Boston was among three Eastern Conference teams that have checked in on the Mavericks’ 27-year-old, joining the Atlanta Hawks and the Indiana Pacers.

With 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis sidelined indefinitely due to a hand injury, Gafford has rejoined Dallas’ starting lineup.

The former second-round pick is averaging 7.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 20.9 minutes per game this season across 28 games (19 starts). Gafford, who signed a $54 million contract extension in July, missed time earlier in the campaign due to an ankle injury.

The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 5.
