AHEAD OF THE GAME: Macclesfield FC (H)
Woking vs Macclesfield FC
Isuzu FA Trophy – Fourth Round
Tuesday 13th January
19:45 Kick-Off
The fourth round of the FA Trophy sees Woking on home turf again, this time as they host Macclesfield FC.
Entering the competition in the third round, Woking saw off National League South side AFC Totton, with two first-half goals from Boatswain securing progression for the Cards on December 13th.
Having previously won the FA Trophy three times, in 1994, 1995, and 1997, Woking will be looking to build on a strong run last season, which saw them reach the semi-finals of the competition.
Opposition Watch
Just last Saturday, Macclesfield defeated Premier League and current FA Cup holders Crystal Palace in the biggest margin of teams to ever come out triumphant, thanks to a 2-1 victory. It has gone down as the biggest FA Cup shock in the competitions history and there’s no doubt that they will still be on cloud nine when they make the visit. England hero Wayne Rooney, brother of Macclesfield Manager John, commentated after the game on how proud he was of his younger sibling.
Competing in the National League North, the Silkmen have had mixed league results this season, whilst their FA Trophy campaign thus far is characterised by narrow wins. Entering in the second round, they emerged with a 1-0 victory against Prescot Cables.
Among the league’s front-runners, fellow National League North outfit South Shields were the third-round challengers. Another 1-0 victory, this time away from home, saw Luke Duffy’s effort just before the half the deciding factor in securing the Silkmen a place in the fourth round.
Also with a strong history in the competition, Macclesfield FC, then known as Macclesfield Town, were the first team to win the trophy, beating Telford United 2-0 in 1970. They have since won it once more, with a 3-1 win over Northwich Victoria in 1996.

One to Watch
A danger in front of goal, Danny Elliot continues to be a threat for the Silkmen. Last season, he played a crucial role, scoring 41 goals in all competitions, making him the Golden Boot winner, alongside winning the club’s Player of the Year honour.
So far this season, he has continued such form, being a key man in front of goal as they navigate life in the National League North.
