Chargers Superstar Makes Statement With (Lack Of) Pregame Outfit
Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James Jr. did his best to make a statement on Sunday.
James, likely in an effort to prove dome teams aren’t impacted by cold weather, walked around the field wearing sunglasses, shorts and flip-flops prior to his club’s wild-card matchup with the New England Patriots on Sunday.
NFL Media’s Omar Ruiz shared video of the bold choice prior to the start of the game at Gillette Stadium.
James’ stunt isn’t exactly original.
Tom Brady famously wore no sleeves prior to his first playoff start against the then-Oakland Raiders in 2002 — a.k.a the “Tuck Rule Game” which happened to be played during a blizzard at Foxboro Stadium. Matt Light didn’t wear sleeves during the coldest game in franchise history, which came in four-degree weather against the Tennessee Titans in 2004.
It’s certainly bold, however, as the real-feel temperature was 32 degrees at the time of the latest stunt in Foxboro, Mass.
It’ll remain to be seen whether the decision to rock vacation attire was a smart one…
