Irate Jaylen Brown Rips Refs In NSFW Rant After Celtics Fall To Spurs
Referees tend to favor the home team, but that certainly wasn’t the case during the Boston Celtics’ frustrating 100-95 loss to the San Antonio Spurs at TD Garden on Saturday.
The refs missed numerous calls throughout the game and seemingly swallowed their whistles whenever the Celtics had the ball, resulting in a ridiculous free-throw disparity. Boston attempted just four free throws all game, whereas the Spurs shot 20.
That prompted an NSFW outburst from Jaylen Brown, who went off on the refs after the game for their one-sided officiating.
“I’ll accept the fine at this point. I thought it was some bull**** tonight. They’re a good defensive team, but they ain’t that d**n good,” Brown told reporters during his postgame interview. “I hope somebody can just pull up the clips, because it’s the same s**t every time we play a good team. It’s like they refuse to make a call, then they call touch fouls on the other end, and that’s just extremely frustrating, bro.”
“Every time we play a good team, the inconsistency is crazy. I’ll take the f***ing fine,” added Brown, who was also upset with the refs after last week’s loss to the Denver Nuggets.
Brown doubled down on X after the game, posting, “Fine me I’m sick of this s**t.”
The stats back Brown up. According to Celtics reporter Chris Forsberg, he drew just one shooting foul on 54 drives (1.9%) in the team’s two losses to San Antonio and the Nuggets last week. That’s well below his average shooting foul rate of 8.9% on drives.
Brown has a point, but he will still likely be fined by the league for his inappropriate comments. After going 2-2 on their homestand last week, he and his teammates will try to bounce back against the Indiana Pacers on the road on Monday night.
