Not Zirkzee: Serie A giants now want to agree deal for "versatile" Man Utd star in January
Juventus are weighing up a surprise move for Manchester United right-back Noussair Mazraoui during the ongoing transfer window, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Morocco international was linked with the Bianconeri last summer, but a deal never materialised.
However, this has not ended the speculation. Gazzetta dello Sport claim that the Turin giants could make a fresh attempt to land his signature in the coming days.
The Bianconeri are eyeing a proper alternative to Pierre Kalulu at right-back.
Genoa’s Brooke Norton-Cuffy has been a target for Juventus this month, but Everton are currently in a strong position to purchase the former Arsenal graduate.
Luciano Spalletti’s side have therefore revived their interest in Mazraoui, who has been described as ‘technical, quick, agile and versatile’ by Gazzetta dello Sport.
United unlikely to entertain Mazraoui’s exit
The Red Devils recently parted ways with head coach Ruben Amorim and have placed Darren Fletcher in temporary charge. A new interim manager could be announced soon.
Despite Amorim’s sacking, United striker Joshua Zirkzee has been heavily linked with a winter move to Roma, and the Red Devils have a huge decision to make on him over the coming weeks.
Zirkzee is considered a backup for Benjamin Sesko upfront, and we believe United must keep hold of his services unless they can pursue a suitable replacement before the transfer deadline.
In the case of Mazraoui, United should have no thoughts about contemplating his departure.
The Moroccan struggled at the start of the season due to injuries, but he became a key figure in the starting plans of Amorim before reporting for the Africa Cup of Nations with his country.
Mazraoui has generally played on the right side of the back three for United this term, but he will be a direct competitor to Diogo Dalot at right-back with the recent change of formation (4-2-3-1).
The former Bayern Munich man is an upgrade on Dalot for the role, in our view. He is very good in one-on-one situations and can make regular overlapping runs, linking up with the right winger.
Hence, we simply don’t see the Red Devils parting ways with Mazraoui this winter.
