Celtics’ Scouting Report For Raptors Matchup Goes Viral
The Boston Celtics responded from a tough loss to the Denver Nuggets by taking down the Toronto Raptors 125-117 on Friday night. While the team’s strong play caught attention, so too did a clip of their unique scouting report for the game.
Boston got contributions up and down its lineup in this one, as six different players scored double figures in this one. Toronto was admittedly quite shorthanded, but a win is a win, especially when a team is coming off a loss.
During his time with the C’s, head coach Joe Mazzulla’s unique coaching tendencies have become notorious. After this game, a clip emerged on social media showing Derrick White looking at the scouting report with the coaching staff, with a laptop showing the Raptors players with “badges” next to them, which is a nod to the popular NBA 2K video games.
In the NBA 2K video games, players have “badges,” which are essentially traits that fit their playstyle. The coaching staff appears to be using that concept to help the players figure out what each player on the opposing team specializes in.
Against Toronto at least, the strategy worked. Boston dominated this game offensively, and while it took its foot off the gas pedal a bit down the stretch, the result was never truly in doubt.
With this win, the Celtics jumped back up to second place in the Eastern Conference. The C’s will look to continue their winning ways when they return to action on Saturday night for a matchup with the San Antonio Spurs. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
