Confirmed Man United team news vs Brighton: Four players out of the FA Cup clash
Manchester United will welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Old Trafford on Sunday as they begin their FA Cup journey under intense scrutiny.
Interim head coach Darren Fletcher has lifted the lid on his squad plans ahead of the third-round showdown.
He said in his pre-match press conference (via ManUtd.com): “We have the same players available for the game, as we had against Burnley, so no new additions.
“Bryan and Nous will not be available for the game.”
The Red Devils received a huge boost on Wednesday evening, with Bruno Fernandes returning to the starting XI.
The captain pulled the strings throughout, carving out multiple chances and registering an assist for Benjamin Sesko’s long-awaited opener.
There was further encouragement as Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo both made their long-anticipated returns from injury.
Both of them came on in the second half but failed to make a significant impact.
Harry Maguire was also back in the matchday squad, watching on from the bench as an unused substitute.
At present, Matthijs de Ligt is the sole absentee due to injury, continuing his recovery from a lingering back problem.
Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui are also unavailable due to international commitments.
Brighton are a top-class side and United would be foolish to rotate their side heavily.
The FA Cup presents them with a wonderful opportunity to win silverware and secure a guaranteed ticket to the Europa League next season.
For the Red Devils, this is not just another cup tie, but a must-win statement game.
