Tottenham identify former Leeds United player as Radu Dragusin replacement

0 12

Tottenham Hotspur are turning their attention to a Ligue 1 centre-back as the future of Radu Dragusin continues to be the subject of speculation.

It has been widely reported that Dragusin is keen to get some football under his belt after 11 months out of action with an ACL injury.

The Romanian, who made his comeback against Crystal Palace a week and a half ago, is understandably concerned that he might not get game time at Spurs, given that Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Kevin Danso are ahead of him in the pecking order.

Dragusin is wanted by a number of Serie A clubs this month, and the Lilywhites have now reportedly identified a replacement.

Tottenham ready to battle West Ham for English defender

Journalist Ben Jacobs has now revealed that Spurs have identified Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell as a target.

The 23-year-old left Leeds United to join the Ligue 1 side in the summer of 2024 for £3.8m and has since proved to be a huge hit in France.

Jacobs revealed that Spurs are ready to battle West Ham for Cresswell and that the player’s arrival at N17 would allow the club to part ways with Dragusin.

The journalist said on Last Word on Spurs: “I’m told Charlie Cresswell, the ex-Leeds player who’s also on West Ham United’s radar, is a name that Tottenham are looking at and might be available in January. So if Spurs can find a young and versatile defender, then perhaps that paves the way for Dragusin to leave.”

Dragusin is also attracting interest from Premier League clubs

It is not just multiple Serie A clubs who are vying to sign the Tottenham defender, but also clubs from England.

It has been claimed that Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace have enquired about Dragusin’s availability to Spurs.

Given the amount of interest in the centre-back’s services, the Lilywhites would hope to get a bidding war going and potentially recoup the £26.7m they paid for him two years ago.
