Why Aston Villa’s Draw at Palace Felt Like a Setback

0 1

Last night felt like a missed opportunity that will linger longer than it should. An away draw at Selhurst Park is not a disaster in isolation, but context matters, Crystal Palace came into this one out of form, a side that knows exactly how to frustrate Aston Villa. Bogey teams are only bogey teams if you allow them to be.

What makes it harder to swallow is what happened elsewhere. Manchester City dropped points at home against Brighton, a rare stumble, the kind of result you dream of when you are chasing the very best. A win for Villa would have taken us above City, a genuine statement moment, and instead we didn’t take advantage.

That is the difference between being good and becoming great. If we are serious about one day calling ourselves Champions Title contenders, these are the games that have to be won. Not scraped through, not managed, not written off as “a tough away point”. You have to impose yourself on sides that are struggling, regardless of venue, regardless of history.

Palace did not beat us, but once again they stopped us. And until Villa start turning nights like this into three points, frustration will remain part of the conversation. UTV
