Patriots’ Division Rival Makes Shocking Head Coach Decision
The New England Patriots are getting themselves ready for their wild-card playoff matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, but the rest of the league currently is embroiled in chaos thanks to a hectic head coach carousel. On Thursday morning, another big move was made by the Miami Dolphins.
The 2025 campaign was viewed as a make-or-break season for the Dolphins, and it’s safe to say things were a mess for the team. While they managed to recover after an ugly start to the season to post a 7-10 record, all eyes were on the status of head coach Mike McDaniel after the season ended.
While general manager Chris Grier was fired midway through the season, the rumors coming out of Miami seemed to indicate that McDaniel’s job was safe. Instead, several days after the team’s season-ending loss to the Patriots, McDaniel ended up getting fired on Thursday morning.
“ESPN Sources: Dolphins fired head coach Mike McDaniel,” Adam Schefter reported in a post on X. “Dolphins owner Stephen Ross met with McDaniel this week to discuss the season. After that meeting and reflection, Ross decided to move on.”
Throughout the season, McDaniel seemed to run out of answers when it came to fixing the Dolphins’ offense. He eventually ended up benching franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, turning to seventh-round rookie Quinn Ewers for the team’s final three games.
Miami already had a lot of work to do this offseason, and now it will have to find a new head coach after moving on from McDaniel. A full-scale rebuild could be set to get underway for the Dolphins, making them one of the most intriguing teams to watch over the upcoming offseason.
