Bill Simmons Wonders How Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum Will Mesh Once JT Returns
The Boston Celtics‘ season is going better than anyone expected. After defeating the Chicago Bulls at home on Monday, the Celtics are 23-12 on the season and in second place in the East behind only the Detroit Pistons.
All of this without Jayson Tatum.
But what’s going to happen when Tatum returns, if that happens this season? A lot of people have sort of assumed the Celtics will simply get a lot better now that one of their two superstars is back in the fold, but Bill Simmons things it might be a bit more complicated than that. He talked about this during a new episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast.
After praising Jaylen for his epic 50-ball against the Clippers (a game that Simmons said was one of the best road performances he’s even seen from a Celtic), Simmons fanned the flames of controversy and wondered aloud whether there might be chemistry concerns once Tatum returns from injury, presumably later this season.
“It’s a really weird situation ’cause Tatum hasn’t played this whole year, and Jaylen somehow went up a level, and I don’t really know what happens when Tatum comes back,” Simmons said.
“So, in the good version of this, he just comes back and you give him the Sam Hauser minutes, and he’s on a minutes limit, and he’s just gonna shoot threes, and rebound, and play defense and be completely additive.”
“But he’s kind of coming back to somebody else’s team, and I don’t know how it’s gonna play out,” Simmons added.
