'Something is wrong': Amorim sends ruthless message to two Man Utd stars - opinion

0 22

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim launched an indirect attack on players who want to leave the club during the winter transfer window.

The Red Devils drew 1-1 with Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Leeds forward Brenden Aaronson fired the hosts ahead with his precise finish past Senne Lammens around the hour mark.

United had to deliver an instant response to silence the Elland Road crowd and Matheus Cunha did exactly that with his smart run behind the defensive line.

Joshua Zirkzee came on as a substitute and gave an attacking edge to the team that was missing in the first 60 minutes.

Amorim was asked whether the brilliant cameo from Zirkzee showed that he needs to stay at United amid transfer links.

He said (via Football on TNT Sports): “Everyone needs to focus on United. This is one of the best clubs in the world.

“If you are here and focusing on a different club, something is wrong with you.”

Zirkzee is heavily linked with a transfer to AS Roma this winter.

The Italian outfit is ready to sign him on an initial loan with an obligation to buy.

The Dutch international has played in 13 games this season, but has been called upon from bench in nine of them.

Despite playing only 465 minutes, Zirkzee has bagged two goals and an assist.

It would be fair to say that his overall game has been far from impressive, but one cannot discount his end product, especially during a period when several first-team stars are unavailable.

We believe that Amorim’s comments were not only aimed at Zirkzee but also at Mainoo, who is seeking a loan move.

The 20-year-old has yet to start in a league this term and looks set to lose his World Cup spot in the England team.

United are one of the biggest clubs in the world. If any player is afraid of challenges and not willing to prove themselves every day, they do not belong here.

Former United captain Roy Keane also sent the same message to Mainoo a few weeks back.

Players must stay and prove the manager wrong through hard work in training and patience on the bench in order to earn a spot in the starting XI.
