Bombshell update: Amorim confirms two key Man United stars will return vs Burnley

0 3

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has dropped a major bombshell over the return of two key stars.

Man United played out a 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday, failing to break into the top four yet again.

Speaking after the game, Amorim confirmed that Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount could return for the next clash.

He said (via Football on TNT Sports): “I expect more minutes for Fernandes and Mount, so we have more players that can help us.

Fernandes last featured in the 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

He picked up a hamstring injury in the first half and was taken off, a rare sight in his United career.

Mount was taken off at half-time in the 1-0 win over Newcastle United and missed the last two clashes.

Amorim has hinted that the two creative midfielders could play a role from the bench when United travel to Turf Moor on 7 January.

The Red Devils have recently dropped costly points against sides fighting for Premier League survival, a worrying trend as the season intensifies.

Avoiding a repeat against Burnley is crucial if United are to keep their top-four ambitions alive.

A lack of creativity in the final third has plagued United in recent weeks, with Fernandes, Mount and Kobbie Mainoo all absent.

That creative void has been compounded by the unavailability of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo due to international commitments.

As a result, the attacking burden has fallen almost entirely on Matheus Cunha.

The potential return of Fernandes and Mount represents the biggest boost United supporters could have hoped for at a decisive stage of the campaign.
