Tottenham predicted XI vs Sunderland as Thomas Frank tries new option at number 10

0 55

Tottenham return to home action on Sunday evening knowing that a victory against Sunderland could prove vital as they look to keep pace in a congested Premier League table. Let’s take a look at our predicted Tottenham XI to face the Black Cats.

Tottenham Hotspur take on seventh-placed, newly promoted Sunderland on Sunday evening at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a ground where they have often struggled to secure wins.

The two sides take on each other for the first time this season and will both be desperate to secure all three points, following their respective draws in their last outings.

Let’s now take a look at how we expect Thomas Frank to line up against Sunderland on Sunday.

Tottenham predicted XI vs Sunderland

Goalkeeper – Guglielmo Vicario: The Italian shot-stopper has managed back-to-back clean sheets, which is good for his confidence coming into this clash, and so we expect him to start here.

Right-back – Pedro Porro: The Spanish international has been a mainstay in the Tottenham backline and, with little competition for his spot, he should keep his starting place.

Centre-back – Cristian Romero: Returned to the team after his suspension and helped Tottenham to another clean sheet. He is the captain, and we do not expect him to be left out.

Centre-back – Micky van de Ven: Arguably the best player for Tottenham in the draw against Brentford, as Van de Ven defended with a lot of aggression, showing a determination to make blocks and interceptions. He has kept himself fit for most of the season, and we expect he will keep his spot against Sunderland.

Left-back – Djed Spence: If Destiny Udogie is fit enough to start, then we expect Djed Spence to be dropped to the bench; if not, then the Englishman should continue on the left.

Pivot midfielder – Rodrigo Bentancur: The Uruguayan continues to do his work in that pivot role and is clearly Frank’s first choice, and we do not expect that to change.

Pivot midfielder – Archie Gray: The number ten experiment with Gray did not change Spurs’ creativity issues, and we expect Frank to opt for a different approach here, restoring Gray to his deeper midfield role and dropping Joao Palhinha to the bench.

Centre midfielder – Wilson Odobert: With Xavi Simons still suspended, we could see Odobert deployed in the number ten role, a position he is familiar with, given he featured there a couple of times under Ange Postecoglou.

Right winger – Mohammed Kudus: The Ghana international needs to improve on his wing play, as Spurs at the moment seem to lack spark in attack.

Striker – Richarlison: Remains Spurs’ most lethal goalscoring threat, given that no player has scored more times than him this season in the Premier League, and he should start from the off here.

Left winger – Randal Kolo Muani: If Odobert starts centrally, then Muani will have to return to the starting XI, featuring from the left.
