95% passing, 100% ground duels: Amorim has new undroppable in 72-touch United star after Wolves draw
Manchester United shared the spoils against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils went into the game at Old Trafford as clear favourites, having beaten Wolves 4-1 in the reverse fixture.
However, they failed to turn up with a resounding attacking performance and ended up handing Wolves a surprise point.
Wolves picked up their first point of any form since October after Ladislav Krejci cancelled out Joshua Zirkzee’s deflected goal.
There were not many positives to carry forward, but we were particularly impressed by Ayden Heaven’s overall performance.
The 19-year-old made his sixth straight league start for the Red Devils and was undoubtedly the best defender on the pitch.
He was a key catalyst behind United’s goal. He pushed up the field to dispossess Hwang Hee-chan in the lead-up to Zirkzee’s opener.
Aside from this, the former Arsenal graduate was brilliant in possession, completing 95 percent of his passes (57 out of 60).
He won 100 percent of his ground duels (6/6) and also made five recoveries and three clearances against the bottom-placed side.
Heaven, who had 72 touches against Wolves, was eventually replaced by Leny Yoro in the 75th minute.
The decision to substitute him came as a surprise and was met by a chorus of boos from the faithful.
Heaven has been fantastic since becoming a United regular, and he is presently above Yoro in the pecking order under Amorim.
Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire are poised to return from their respective injuries soon. There may be a place for just one in a 3-4-2-1 set-up.
Heaven has earned his spot with standout defensive displays, and he looks undroppable on current form.
He has clearly become a fan favourite. The youngster deserves his place in the starting XI when United are at full strength too.
