Astros Called Top Landing Spot For Ace Who Would Fit Well On Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox have been discussed all offseason long as a team looking to add another elite starting pitcher. While Boston may no longer be characterized that way due to their trades for Sonny Gray and Johan Ovideo, that doesn’t change the fact that the Red Sox have always been a good trade fit for Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta, whose name has been tossed around in trade rumors for awhile.

If Peralta does get dealt before the season, where could he land, if not Boston? On Tuesday, Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly identified the Houston Astros are the most logical trade fit for Peralta.

“To be clear, the Milwaukee Brewers—who won an MLB-best 97 games this past regular season—should hold onto Freddy Peralta if they want to maximize their World Series chances in 2026,” Kelly wrote.

“With that said, Peralta is going to cost significantly more than the $8 million he’s making in 2026 come 2027, meaning he’s unlikely to be in Milwaukee past this upcoming season,” Kelly continued. “With Brandon Woodruff accepting the qualifying offer and the intriguing young duo of Jacob Misiorowski and Quinn Priester, you can at least understand why the low-budget Brewers would listen on their ace.”

“Even if he’s a rental, Peralta would make quite a bit of sense for the Astros, who are likely to lose Framber Valdez in free agency,” Kelly added. “Houston has quite a bit of uncertainty in their rotation after Hunter Brown, so Peralta would help to give Joe Espada’s squad a little more stability among their starters. The usual suspects—the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox—are all also great fits for Peralta, it’s just a matter of whether Milwaukee president of baseball operations Matt Arnold actually wants to deal the two-time All-Star.”

Peralta came to the Brewers from the Seattle Mariners in a 2015 trade. The Dominican right-hander progressed rapidly through Milwaukee’s farm system, earning minor league All-Star honors in 2016 and 2017.

He secured his first All-Star appearance in 2021 and inked a five-year contract extension in 2020, covering through 2024 with club options for 2025 and 2026. Peralta claimed NL Pitcher of the Month awards in August 2023 and again in August 2025.

Across 211 career games, he holds a 70-42 record, 3.59 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 1,153 strikeouts over 931 innings.

In 2025, Peralta delivered a standout campaign with a 17-6 mark, 2.70 ERA, and 204 punchouts in 176 2/3 innings, topping the NL in wins and ranking sixth in strikeouts. He notched another All-Star berth, All-MLB Second Team recognition, and strong playoff outings, including nine strikeouts in NLDS Game 1 against the Cubs.
