Marco Sturm Gives Candid But Optimistic Take Following Bruins’ OT Loss To Flames
The Boston Bruins controlled play for a good portion of Monday night’s overtime loss to the Calgary Flames. And taking all factors into account, walking away with one point was at least somewhat satisfying for head coach Marco Sturm, despite the end result.
Boston kicked off a four-game West Coast swing in Calgary following Saturday’s road loss to the surprising freight train that is the Buffalo Sabres. The B’s led 1-0 after the first period Monday, but a Blake Coleman wrist shot to beat Jeremy Swayman in the second tied it.
The game eventually went into overtime, where Connor Zary potted the winner following a scramble in front of the net off a Yegor Sharangovich shot from the top of the circle.
The win continues a solid run for Calgary, which seems to be pulling itself out of the bottom of the Pacific Division standings with a solid December.
For the Bruins, it was a disappointing finish for a game that had its positives — a decent outcome considering how notoriously daunting the stretches on the other side of the continent can be for teams.
“It’s a point. A point is a point. We’ll take that any time on the road. Do we want two? Yes. But again, I feel good about that point,” Sturm said after the game, via NHL.com. “(The Flames) have been pretty good at home; they’ve been pretty good the last 10 games, as well. We want to build on that. We have to. It’s a tough league, and you have to sometimes start with the little things.”
The Bruins still have the Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks and Seattle Kraken to play, beginning with Connor McDavid and Co. on Wednesday. While the Oilers are a buzzsaw, Vancouver is a mess and the Kraken are scuffling (4-5-1 in their last 10).
The Flames will be the first team the Bruins face when they begin their next homestand on Jan. 8.
