Amorim makes 2 changes | Predicted Man Utd XI vs Wolves as £52m star returns
Manchester United will be aiming for back-to-back Premier League wins when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford tonight.
The Red Devils secured a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United on Boxing Day. Patrick Dorgu scored the winner with a sublime volley in the 24th minute.
United now entertain bottom-placed Wolves, and should fancy picking up another resounding victory. They won 4-1 in the reverse fixture this month.
Ahead of the game, manager Ruben Amorim could make a couple of changes to the starting XI.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-up:
Senne Lammens has been ever-present in United’s goal since making his debut against Sunderland in October. He kept his second clean sheet on Boxing Day and will be eyeing another shutout against a goal-shy Wolves outfit.
In defence, there could be a solitary change from the Magpies game. Lisandro Martinez’s workload needs to be managed after a long-term knee injury. The Argentine could drop to the bench with Leny Yoro being reinstated in the starting line-up.
The £52 million signing has fallen down the pecking order under Amorim, with Ayden Heaven preferred over him in the absence of injured duo Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire in central defence. Yoro and Heaven could be paired together tonight.
Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw are expected to continue in the right and left-back positions respectively.
In central midfield, Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte look poised to continue with Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes sidelined. However, there could be a change in the attacking midfield role with Mason Mount deemed doubtful.
The Englishman was replaced by young graduate Jack Fletcher at half-time on Boxing Day after picking up a possible muscle injury. Fletcher now looks poised to make his maiden start for the Red Devils.
Joshua Zirkzee may not get the nod over the youngster, given he appears on the cusp of a winter exit. Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo are presently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations along with Noussair Mazraoui.
Matheus Cunha is expected to start on the left wing against his former employers, while Dorgu should be guaranteed to feature on the right after back-to-back standout performances. Benjamin Sesko is set to lead the line for the Red Devils. The Slovenian will be aiming to add to his two-goal tally this term.
