Why NFL Writer Would’ve Loved To See Myles Garrett On Patriots This Season

During the offseason, there was some buzz surrounding the possibility that the Cleveland Browns could have traded their star pass rusher, Myles Garrett.

Garrett requested a trade during Super Bowl week, but he and the Browns reached an agreement on a contract extension before free agency began in March. However, if Garrett had been more determined to push for a move out of Cleveland, the New England Patriots could have been a viable trade partner.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wrote on Friday that he would have loved to see Garrett play for the Patriots this season.

“Imagine how his numbers might look if opponents actually had to pass often,” Knox wrote. We could have picked just about competitive team here, but the New England Patriots would have made perfect sense.

“They took an aggressive approach to the offseason, adding the likes of Milton Williams, K’Lavon Chaisson and Stefon Diggs in free agency. Going after Garrett would have followed the offseason plan. The Patriots also have the cap flexibility to pay Garrett, as they still lead the league in available cap space.”

The Browns have one of the league’s worst records at 3-12, but Garrett is having a fantastic season, recording 22 sacks. He’s just one sack away from breaking the single-season record. If he played on a strong team like New England, there’s a good chance he could have already broken the record, as opposing teams would likely have had to throw the ball more to try to beat the Patriots.
