"He's going to be": Amorim sends message to 20yo star, who wants January move

Manchester United entertain Newcastle United in tonight’s much-awaited Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

Ahead of the game, manager Ruben Amorim faced plenty of questions regarding multiple players.

Unsurprisingly, Kobbie Mainoo’s playing time was a topic again despite him being injured at the moment.

Amorim was asked about Mainoo’s chances of playing more regularly in the coming weeks. The response was positive.

The Portuguese highlighted that Mainoo will have the opportunity, as he has already played in different midfield positions.

The manager added that ‘he is going to be’ the future of United, and urged the club graduate to stay patient for his chance.

He said via Manutd.com: “Kobbie will have the opportunity that he has all the time.

“He played in different positions. We talk about the position of Casemiro, [Mainoo] can do that position.

“If we play with three, he can play like we played in the last game [against Aston Villa] — the position of Mason Mount in this game, he can play there.

“So, in the future, he’s going to be the future of Manchester United. That is my feeling. You just need to wait for each chance. And everything can change in football in two days.”

The 20-year-old has endured a difficult campaign with the Red Devils. He has made 11 substitute appearances in the league and has yet to start in the top-flight this term.

Mainoo had a brilliant opportunity to do so with Casemiro suspended last weekend, but he unfortunately sustained a calf injury in the final training session before the Aston Villa trip.

Amorim has predicted Mainoo to recover from his injury before Fernandes, who is sidelined with a hamstring issue. The Englishman could line up alongside Casemiro in the near future.

Still, Mainoo is not a guaranteed starter when Fernandes and Casemiro are fully fit and available for selection in the heart of United’s midfield.

The midfielder is ‘deeply frustrated’ by his situation this season, and The Athletic have reported that he is ‘ready’ to push for a temporary move elsewhere at the turn of the year.

In our view, United are unlikely to grant him a short-term loan this winter unless a proper replacement is signed. Mainoo has his sights on pushing for a World Cup berth with England with regular minutes.

A temporary exit seems improbable unless a new player arrives. United are looking at Al-Hilal star Ruben Neves, but have not made a formal approach for the Portuguese until now.
