Ravens Open Investigation After Scary Incident During Patriots Matchup
The New England Patriots handed the Baltimore Ravens a 28-24 defeat in Week 16 on Sunday Night Football, pushing their record to 12-3 on the year. Before this game, a scary fireworks incident took place on the field that led to the Ravens opening an investigation into the matter.
Entering this game, the Pats were looking to bounce back after suffering a crushing loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 15. For most of the game, things didn’t look good for New England, but Drake Maye authored an 11-point fourth-quarter comeback to help his team come out on top.
Before the game even got underway, though, a worrisome incident took place at M&T Bank Stadium. A video surfaced on social media of a firework mistakenly getting shot directly onto the field. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the Ravens announced that they are investigating what led to this mistake.
These sorts of fireworks displays are quite common across the NFL, but that doesn’t take away from how dangerous they can end up being if things go wrong. Clearly, something did not go according to plan here, and it’s a relief that no one ended up being harmed.
With their win over Baltimore, New England maintained control of the AFC East division heading into Week 17, while also officially clinching a playoff berth. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but this was easily the team’s most important game of the season, and they delivered the goods.
The Patriots will return to action in Week 17 with a divisional matchup against the New York Jets. Simply put, the Jets have been a mess this year, but the Pats need to beat them, so they cannot take this game lightly. Kickoff for this contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
